It was so fun to watch him improve over the past few weeks. Roxann moved up to the next level where they start adding new strokes to your race day. She had to do Butterfly and Breast this season. She is not a big fan of the butterfly stroke at all! In fact, every time she swam the fly at a meet she would crawl out of the pool and cry because she didn’t feel like she did a very good job. She kept on getting disqualified until the very last meet when she didn’t place in the top twelve but she did not get a DQ. So we were pretty proud of her improvement.
Donovan kept getting DQ all season for his backstroke because he would turn around at the very last second and hit the wall. I wasn’t too worried about it because at every single practice he would need a coach to hold him up in the water while he swam on his back. At the very first meet, Coach Abby asked Donovan which coach he wanted to be in the water with? Donovan looked at her and said, “I’m good”. She didn’t know what he meant and asked him again. He said “I’m good, I don’t need a coach.” She told him alright and walked away. I starting freaking because he was about to jump into a pool without any coach and he never swam backstroke without someone basically holding him up. When that whistle blew I was stunned!!! He swam the ENTIRE 25 yards all by himself and he didn’t even stop till the very end where he stopped and turned over, then touched.
My heart was bursting with pride that day. I was beaming almost as much as he was. He got out of the pool with his cute little suit on and I couldn’t stop hugging him!
Jordyn is patiently waiting until next summer when she finally gets to join the swim team. She let’s everyone know that she will be on the team and she will win the race. It will definitely be interesting to see her race next year.
Another season over and personally I thought it was very successful. They didn’t need to be the top on their team, they just needed to have fun. And they did!
