The ABC train that lines my hallway upstairs leading to the Bonus Room. The kids use the apple pointers and sing the ABC song while trying to match the letters and the song together. They like finding the letters of their names.
M is for marshmallow. Only a few kids wanted to eat the marshmallows instead of gluing them on their paper. We're hoping to compile all of the letter pages at the end of pre-school into a personal "My ABC book" for a keepsake. I'm not sure how long marshmallows last :)!
With the letter of the week, I found objects around my house that start with that letter. M was easy. Q was not. The kids help me pick the objects out of my special letter box and say the words with me. We also read the letter "Mm" book, "Mouse's first day of school", "Happy Birthday Moon", and "If you give a Mouse a cookie."
The three year olds helped me put together the ABC train puzzle. Donovan and Nicholas were really into it and were so proud of their "long train"! "Whoa!" they kept saying.
We sang "Old MacDonald had a Farm", acted out the animal sounds on a farm, talked about what things we get from each animal on a farm, and passed around the animals in the circle as we sang. We also watched 10 minutes of the "Baby Macdonald" DVD that shows the animal puppets on a farm. I read some rhyming riddles and they had to guess which animal I was talking about that rhymed. We practiced saying the rhyming words together.
I read "The 3 little pigs" to both groups and then we acted it out a couple of times while trading puppets around. There was only 1 kid who was scared of the puppets and hid under the table. The 3 year olds were cracking up- especially Wynter!
I have a fun CD with the music of the 3 little pigs, so they acted it out while the CD sang.
"Little Pig, Little Pig, let me come in." "Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin".
The 3 little pigs all ran away from the wolf!
Most of the kids wanted to be the wolf.
I don't think I've showed the color shapes that we sit on upstairs in the bonus room yet. The colors & shapes are made out of felt and they change every time. The kids tell me the color & shape they are sitting on. I try to make everything we do a learning activity without them even knowing it! When we line up to go upstairs, we count off, "first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth."
The 4 year olds traced their full names on the chalkboard. They are doing so well with writing their first letter of their names all by themselves. They are so confident now and can do it without my help! These kids are so smart!
The reading corner had all the farm books, puzzles, & toys in it to explore.
Happy Fall! The kids made sheep. We'll be adding pigs & cows to the wall. We're excited for our farm field trip this week! Cows here we come!
