Week 2 was all about Bears & Buttons. We decorated the letter B with buttons & bear buttons. We sorted buttons in circle time into shapes & number of holes & colors. We sang lots of bear songs: "We're going on a bear hunt" with our backpacks & flashlights, "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?", did our name songs again, "Pokey Bear", and "Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, turn around. Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear touch the ground. etc." with our teddy bears that the kids brought in this week. I forgot to get a picture of their kids with their teddy bears (bummer), so we'll have to do it again, because the kids loved hiding their bears and finding them on the bear hunt. We put our teddy bears in order from smallest to biggest (which was actually challenging for them- which one comes next? Which one is next biggest? etc. I was surprised that this was a challenge for them, so we'll practice this again.) We listened to lots of B book stories, "Bubble Bath Pirates" (cute book and so appropriate with the play pirate ship, "Goldlilocks & the 3 Bears", "James Gets Stung by a Bee". There are so many great B words. I know we'll re-visit the letter B later this year with Butterfly & Ballons & Bubbles & Bees in the spring.
The kids were great at sorting buttons! We also played, "Button, Button, Who has the button?" I would slip a button into one of the kids hands and the rest had to guess who I gave it to. The next day we made Brown Bear puppets.
For snack we decorated or just ate our bear cookies that I had cut out. We also had teddy grahams & yogurt dip & jell-o jigglers. Yummy!
The 4 year olds practiced writing the letter B. It was a challenge for them. I can see that we need lots of practice with how to hold a pencil, how to trace a letter, how to color in the lines, and how to write our names. We have a lot to work on this year and they are up to the challenge!
For outside time, we Bounced the Balls in the parachute, we played with Balls & Bubbles, and every time we found a word that started with B, we said, "B, B, B bubbles" for example. With Batman costumes, Bears, & Balls, I hope they got the letter B down!
Next week we are working on the theme: Hands & Feet while learning the letter Q & X. I know random right? But, don't worry. I have it all under control and can make Q & X relate to the them- just you wait
