Number 1 on the List...CHECK!!!!!

I need to tell you guys about my weekend. The first thing on my Birthday list is that I want to run a marathon of some kind someday. Well, this past weekend was that day! I officially completed my first half marathon with my Mother by my side. We finished with a time of 3:14 respectively and I couldn't be prouder.

We arrived in Orlando around 4:00 Friday afternoon where we meet up with Mom and Dad and we all frantically started setting up camp. Mom and I had to get to our Expo in order to pick up our goody bags and bibs for the race so we missed most of the setup. Camping was fun for my family, we were all warm and all of us slept through the night. Unfortunately, it wasn't the same for Mom and Dad, they were freezing and had a miserable night. Here is my official apology to them for not bringing enough blankets. When I signed up for my marathon, I had the opportunity to sign my kids up for some races of their own. Roxann ran in the 200m race, Donovan ran in the 100m race, and Jordyn was in the diaper crawl (but we grabbed a medal and ran before we got to her race). During Donovan's race, I couldn't stop laughing at him. He was having the best time just letting loose and laughing his head off as he ran after his Daddy to the finish line. I told my Dad that Donovan wasn't running very fast and he said "What did you expect? Your son is shaped like a block!" So true...
Mom and I had to get up around 3:15 am in order to get to our race on time. They had to close a bunch of the roads so we weren't sure how long it would take us to get there. We were placed in last corral and could literally count how many people were behind us. This made me super nervous because all I could think about was that dumb bus picking me up if I was too slow. Mom was very calm and ready to go. We did a great six miles but then I got this huge cramp in the back of my left knee and had to stop at the medical tent a couple of times to get some bio freeze. Let me just say that I LOVE BIO FREEZE!

They had a bunch of characters along the course with their respective music. Only to name a few, there was; Captain Jack Sparrow, Pirates, John Smith, Tarzan, Prince Eric, Phoebus, Princess Adda, Prince Naveen, Tiana, Cinderella, Prince Charming, Meeko, Beast, Belle, Aladdin, Pinocchio, Geppetto, Maleficent, Aurora, Prince Phillip, Tweedle Dee & Dum, Chip, Dale, guys from the Richard Petty Driving Experience, Fairy Godmother, Tinkerbell with all her new fairy friends, Minnie, and Mickey. I'm sure there were more but I was probably delirious when I ran past them. Women were stopping and taking pictures with every character on the course. I did slow down a couple of times and thankfully, Mom didn't get too mad that I slowed our pace down. The most exciting part was running that last half mile. We were in Epcot and had people all over the place cheering and wanting to give us high fives. Mom obliged but I didn't want to touch anyone, or anything. We finally saw that finish line and I was just so happy to be done. It was the greatest feeling to cross that finish line and be able to receive that medal. Oh happy day, then Mom and I high-tailed it back to our campsite and were able to enjoy one last shower before our treks back to our homes.

Overall, the experience was awesome and I think Aaron caught the Marathon bug and who knows, maybe we will be competing in another race this year......maybe.
