The Next Julie Foudy

Roxy got to play in her second soccer game this past Saturday. She has gotten so much better since last season. She even scored a couple of goals so far. She is going so well and she claims that she is having a great time and really likes playing. She is so much more fun to watch this season versus last year when she never ever got the ball during the game. The number one thing everyone tells Roxy is how quick she is. That's very true, she was able to catch up with all the other girls on the field. She was the only one on her team that actually played some defense. Then she would get a break away and her own players would take it from her and score. I told Aaron that she does all the work, and gets no credit. Then Aaron said "well, she'll make a great midfielder." I thought that was pretty funny that he said that. I can't believe my daughter is old enough to play soccer. I tried my best not to coach her from the side but I finally got the hint when one of the opponents had the ball and Aaron and I yelled to Roxy to get in front of her. Roxy wasn't able to catch up and and the other girl scored a goal. Once the girl scored, they called the game. Roxy turned to us and started to get tears in her eyes. I asked her what was wrong and she said, "I tried to get in front of that girl and now I don't want you to be mad at me." I told her how sorry I was was and that she was doing an awesome job. I felt for her, it reminded me of when I would hear familiar voices on the sidelines saying junk to me and all I wanted was for them to not coach, just cheer. SO...for the rest of this season, I am going to do my best to not coach from the sideline, just cheer Roxy on. I told her that I might have to coach her just so I can get it out of my system and it wouldn't be a bad thing because I am the coach. and I would be aloud to yell at her. So begins a long journey of extra curricular activities.
