Camping: Take One

Aaron and I love to camp. We love being outdoors and enjoy the silence of the forest and how peaceful everything feels when you sleep outside. So....this weekend was absolutely beautiful that we couldn't help but go camping this weekend. I called every State Park I could find and everyone was closed for the Winter (Another crazy thing that happens outside of California, places are open seasonally here). Sadly, I reported to Aaron that I couldn't find any place to camp and he asked if he could take a look. I told him that would be great and gladly let him take over the planning. Two minutes later, Aaron came over and said "I found a place, let's get going.""How the heck did you find a place so fast, I looked for thirty minutes and couldn't find anything open.""I just looked up where we go camping with the scouts in the winter, I knew they were open because we go there all the time!" Punk...

Anyway, we went to Montgomery State Park and we had our first camping adventure with children. Oh man, not the same as going with only adults. The kids were all great sports. Donovan couldn't wait to sleep in a tent, but once the marshmallows were eaten and the fire was put out, all Donovan could say was "Go Home" and "Bye Bye." He had had enough camping for three hours. Once I got him settled in a sleeping bag, he was still grumpy so Daddy decided to share sleeping bags so Donovan won't be so cold. Roxy became jealous and wanted to share with Daddy too but three in a Mummy sleeping bag won't work so I bit the bullet and shared with Roxann. She was a lot happier and I'm sure she was a lot warmer. Jordyn had the best bed in the house. She had about four layers on, a hat, and two blankets under her in her moses basket, as well as three blankets on top. I didn't hear Jordyn all night so I'm guessing she had a great sleep. As soon as the sun hit our tent, the kids were up and ready to play. Next Christmas, Santa needs to bring air mattresses instead of toys, they were entertained for hours while Aaron and I waited until 7:15 to get out of the sleeping bags.

Aaron asked Donovan if he had fun sleeping in a tent and he said "Yes" with a huge grin on his face. Then Aaron asked if he wants to sleep in the tent again and he said, "No, Bye Bye." He's a little softy so we need to toughen him up a bit.

I think our Florida camping trip will be fine, but we will bring warm sleeping bags for everyone and I am not sharing again, that will be Daddy's territory.
